Title: Mage's Initiation Comments and Error Report
Post by: Herdestruction on March 18, 2013, 07:08:49 PM
Error: The character 'Redcap Goblin' could not be displayed because there were no frames in loop 0 of view 243.

After reading the rest of this forum I realize loop 0 errors have already been reported but wasn't sure if the specific view number would be helpful.

Also, I have some concerns about the combat system. I really love the concept but had difficulty with it. The WASD keys helped for kiting the goblins, but once they closed in on me I was done for. The third spell works at a specific range to push them back, but once they get right in front of me I was unable to cast any spells including spell 3. I'm not sure if this is intended as a push back/interrupt or not, but it was frustrating. Often times I was being interrupted so frequently I couldn't even run away. At full health I would be forced to stand there and be beaten to death.  :(

I will say, however, that I did seem to get better at the combat over time (many tries, man. many tries ) and I'm sure things will even out once the benefits from stats are added in. This game reminds me a lot of Quest for Glory which makes me immensely happy.

Thanks for all the hard work. I look forward to playing the full game!

Thanks for the comments. Glad you enjoyed it!

Hmmm with the Fire Ring spell, it should be possible to cast that no matter how close the goblins are to you, and there should be no lag time between hitting the hotkey (or clicking the combat GUI button) and casting the spell. Any enemies surrounding you, should flee to the safety zone outside the circle and take some damage in the process. In the final version, the Fire Ring spell's duration will burn for longer, the higher your stats are (which will buy you more time).

Also, if you get surrounded by opponents and locked into a loop of being attacked from all sides, the game *should* be programmed to throw D'arc on his back after a few hits, so that he will be tossed away from the attackers and given a chance to escape.

Obviously, we're still refining the system, so all the feedback we're getting is useful. Cheers!

I had lag with every RoF spell and never got knocked on my back, no matter how long I was trapped in a cycle.
