Any Updates?

Really excited for this game, pre-ordered a while ago, and I keep checking back to the site and facebook page for updates. Any updates on how things are going? or... What stage of development you're at? Any idea of an approximately season/year for release?

Love your work!

I'm also very excited to get this game. I keep checking back to see what the latest is.

Loved every one of your other games. You guys are legends in the adventure game community. More than anyone, the AGDI/Himalaya team has done so much to keep alive the classic adventure game spirit over the last ten years. Your sterling reputation for releasing consistently top-quality games is well-deserved. Other adventure game development teams came and went over the years, many promising great things but usually failing to deliver, but you guys delivered complete, major, polished title after major, polished title.

By the way, if possible, can you please make your Mage's Initiation website a little bit easier to view on iPhone?

The game is pretty deep into development, but there's still a fair bit of work left to do. 90% of the backgrounds have been completed and now we're focused on tying up the loose ends with the remaining character sprites and animations. We had to spend a long while determining exactly how the character stats system and combat balance would work. How those things would tie-in with the adventure game puzzles, as we didn't want to make it seem like a direct clone of the Quest for Glory system. I think we've devised something that's kind of unique now.

We're hoping to release Mage's Initiation at some point in 2013, and are currently weighing the decision on whether to launch a Kickstarter campaign to help complete the game faster and add some additional quests that were scrapped due to budget constraints.

Thanks for the update! That's cool that you guys are putting a lot of thought into how the stats and such work. That was something that was always exciting in Quest for Glory when you had those ... "If I was a magic user, not a fighter, I would have solved that quest differently." Moments. So making the different "schools" of magic feel unique will give it that replay-ability that we all love, with that desire to find different ways to solve problems and such.

I already pre-ordered, but if you do a kickstarter, consider me signed up!

I'm with you. Agree 100%.

It feels almost blasphemous to say this, but I am looking forward much more to Mage's Initiation than I am to the Coles' Hero-U project, which looks interesting.

GameDevChris

Hero-U looks like it'll be a great game, and probably a bit heavier on RPG elements than Mage's Initiation.

Mages will be more like QFG-lite where mainly the magical combat side of the game is stats-based (think Diablo) but the actual story, plot, quests etc. are all traditional Point & Click adventure fare.

Awesome! I plan to get both.

By the way, the music in this video sounds fantastic:

Is this actual music from the game? It's very beautiful and creates a mysterious and adventurous mood.
