Title: (Solved)Blue Screen in XP
Post by: Blomvik on September 18, 2006, 10:48:27 AM
Just got my game today and installed it, trouble is, when i start the game i get a blue screen with the error code:
0x0000008e (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0xF2811E24, 0x00000000)
I have tried searching both Microsoft Knowledge Base and google, but no matches.

I run win XP pro, service pack 2
Mostly updated drivers (laptop) and directx 9.c (lates i think)
And i have tried most, if not all, settings for the game. I'm going to reinstall Al emmo now, but if anyone got a sugestion ill be happy!

edit: after a reinstall i got this:
0x0000008e (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0xF2B5CE24, 0x00000000)

Does your laptop support 640x400 resolution? If this is the problem you might be able to get it to run by changing the resolution settings in the setup program.

STOP 0x8e (KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED) is a fairly common STOP error (that is, it's one of those occuring more often than others). In this case, it refers to a memory access violation.

Did you see a filename listed along with the error? These kind of errors  usually indicate that a driver is faulty, and the filename can be used to tell which driver it is.

After 4-5 re-installs i finally got the game to run, the problem now only occurs when i run it in fullscreen.

-Yes it supports 1024 resolution

-No theres no filename or anything else,
i only get 0x0000008e (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0xXXXXXXXX, 0x00000000) where the 4th one is a new every-time

A blue screen usually indicates a driver fault; have you updated your graphics card drivers? It could be that your current drivers don't work properly with the 640x400 resolution that Al Emmo uses, and it may be that you haven't tried to play any games in this resolution before.

Have you tried checking the letterbox mode in the setup program, or alternatively using the 2x Nearest Neighbour graphics filter?

I downgraded the graphics drivers and it solved the problem, strange that it didnt happen before i installed al emmo, but case solved.
