Stuck in Chapter 7

So far in Chapter 7 I have:
Gotten to the point of crossing the chasm and found the miner's cabin.  I saw the lock on the door and looked at everything there (cabin, door, etc.) and went back into town.

I peeked at the walkthrough because I wasn't sure what to do next and I had talked to everyone I could.  Rita wasn't home.  I had talked to Kevin earlier in the chapter and he said he was worried about Rita. After that I had found the miner's cabin.  I went back to Kevin to talk to him and he wasn't conversing about anything and Rita still wasn't home.  Technically, according to the walkthrough, she should be home and I should get into her house but it hasn't been triggered to happen somehow.
Do I go to an earlier save?  Am I missing a trigger?

Thanks. :)

Erpy

Seems like it, but I'm kinda at a loss what kind of trigger. The cabin can wait until chapter 8, btw. What you should do in chapter 7 is:
Deal with Everette. After he walks off with his "captives" and you take the plunger, the barbed wire blockades should be gone and if you have the stone map (which you got at the end of chapter 6), you should be able to visit Rita.
Melanie68

That's just it.
I've dealt with the exterminator and gotten rid of the barbed wire (and I have the stone tablet).  I've gone to Rita's and she's not home and I can't get in the house.  I've already talked to Kevin and he's already mentioned he's worried about her too.  :(

In general, make sure you take a look at everything in your inventory. That may help...I'm trying to remember what I did at that point - only thing I can think of is talking again with the sheriff.
I'll give that a try.  Thanks all. :)

I had a save late in Chapter 6 so I replayed.

Original play of Chapter 7:
I talked to Wilma
I headed into town and talked to the exterminator
I talked to Kevin (where he mentions his concern for Rita)
I captured the termites and got the exterminator to go away
I tried visiting Rita - she wasn't there
I blew up the tree and made the bridge and made it to the cabin
I tried talking to everyone and tried visiting Rita
I got stuck there.
Replay of Chapter 7:
I talked to Wilma
I went into town and talked to the exterminator
I captured the termites and got rid of the exterminator
I talked to Kevin
I went to Rita's and she was home
I got the journal and slip of paper - now it's Chapter 8
I think by talking to Kevin too early, I must have screwed up something (just my theory).  This is more of an FYI in case anyone else runs into this. :)

Hmmm, that's very strange. I've checked over the code and none of the things you mentioned in your original playthrough seem like they should cause this type of anomoly.

Do you still have a copy of the messed-up savegame? If so, it might be helpful if you could send it to me for further investigation. (Let me know if you need help identifying which file it is).

Thanks!

Melanie68

I still have the save games.  I'll see if I can find the one right after I talked to Kevin the first time  (I save a lot).  I'll be back if I can't find it.  How should I send it to you?

You also owe me money*!  As I was trying to figure out what I should do, I went to the casino (those slots in the game are as addictive as they are in real life  :D ) and I won $5,000.  When I replayed the chapter, I didn't have the same luck.  :(

*just kidding.

The savegame files will be in the game directory and the filenames are agssave.xxx, where xxx is the number of the savegame file. The most recent file will have the highest number.  So if you find the Kevin savegame, restore it and then simply resave the game as a different filename "screw up", for example. Then the affected savegame will be the one with the highest number in your game directory.

If you could zip it and send it to mailto:chrisNOSPAM@himalayastudios.com">chrisNOSPAM@himalayastudios.com (remove the NOSPAM part), I'll take a look at it.

As for the slots, I know what you mean! I wonder how much sooner we could have released this game if we didn't spend so much time playing them. I'm glad you're only trying to hit us up for $5000 -- if that's the case, we should consider ourselves lucky you didn't get the jackpot!  :D

Melanie68

I just sent the file.

Thanks for your help. :)

I highly recommend hitting the jackpot.  Even after you beat the game, load up one of the saves and keep playing until you hit it.  It's awesome!
